For those who are still wondering what is the meaning of these colorful eggs during Easter, here’s something to tell your kids before the Easter egg hunting starts.
Easter eggs or Paschal eggs are decorated eggs usually given during Easter or springtime for the celebration. For Christians, egg symbolizes the tomb of Jesus from which believed Jesus resurrected. It is a symbol of new life after Jesus died from the cross. In spring, egg is also a symbol of rebirth and so egg is given to celebrate the season as it is believed as the start of rebirth of crops and the beginning of time of plenty of food.
It is used to be a colored/dyed eggs – the reason for its customization is that eggs were formerly a forbidden food during Lenten season, so eggs are painted and decorated to mark the end of period of penance and fasting and eat them on Easter to celebrate. For others, coloring it red symbolizes Jesus’s blood as one ancient tradition. The decorations of the egg should date back to at least 13th century; but nowadays, there are substitutes to it as egg chocolates or plastic eggs with chocolates and candies inside hidden in the garden or somewhere in the house for children to find which is called Easter egg hunting or to celebrate the springtime holiday.
The Easter bunny as report says was brought by German immigrants to America of their stories of an egg-laying hare called Osterhase. Their children made their nests so this creature could lay its colored eggs. Eventually this spreads across the US transforming it into a fable of a rabbit’s Easter morning deliveries where in nowadays includes chocolates and the nest replaced by colorful baskets.
Happy Easter to everyone and happy hunting!
